What is Health
As I thought about writing this first blog, I thought… where do I begin? And the answer that came was how about at the beginning?
The beginning for me is health. That’s what we are all about – after all, if you don’t have good health… you know the saying. But how do we define it? I love asking people, how do you define health?
Hippocrates, who is considered the father of medicine, said, ”A wise man ought to realize that health is his most valuable possession and treat illness by his own judgment.”Many dictionaries today use the same definition that has been around since the 12th century; “The state of being free from illness.”Well, that’s not good enough for me! It seems like neutral zone… where you’re not really sick, but not really robustly healthy either.
So here’s my definition:
HEALTH is:
- All day energy
- Vigor and vitality
- Mental clarity and alertness
- Waking up feeling great
- Strength to be able to lift appropriate weight for your age
- Ability to move easily and participate in activities
- Freedom from chronic conditions
- Zest for life
- And Living, Laughing and Loving with friends and family
How does that sound to you? I’d love to hear how you define health. It’s a great topic for discussion and one to really focus on. Which I’ll be doing regularly here, so check back on Thursdays to see what’s cookin’ here on Nedra Says. Thanks for reading and, here’s to your health!
